LOS ANGELES (March 2006)

represented by

"We actually saw relatively little of each other on a daily basis, largely due to the fact that we were 2 groups of 4 with overlapping timetables.  In addition, Sarah had a friend with her - and various friends in LA, as did Claire; Mandy was in training for yet another 10K run, and Rowan could often be found standing on her head in the exercise room - so we tended to meet only in the hotel foyer to swap notes about where we'd been, what we'd seen - and what we'd bought!

As usual in the US, much shopping was done by all - particularly in the shoe department.

We had all hoped for lovely sunny, warm weather and were a little disappointed to be confronted by the coldest March in LA since about 1930!  We did have a couple of warm days, but most of us had entirely the wrong clothes and were therefore forced to head to the various malls to buy warmer clothes.

The 2nd afternoon performance of Andriessen et al was incredibly well attended, and well received.  Cristina was on sparkling form, with her devilish moves and fabulous singing.  She's a really sweet girl and it was hard to imagine that this was the same person we'd met at dinner the other night.

Louis and Reinbert were really pleased with both performances, and that was the most important thing for me.  If you can get as close as possible to what the composer had in mind, then add to that the interpretation of the conductor, then you're in with a good chance of convincing an audience that a piece is worth listening to!"
