"With gorgeous sunny weather forecast for the morning, and a free day ahead, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to go up the famous St Louis arch.

It's an extraordinary construction, built in the 60's with fairly rudimentary technology, but it's beautifully crafted and so perfect in form.  You don't realise how big it is until you walk up to the base of it.

To get to the top, you take a little ratchet-train/lift which consists of a series of little pods, each for 5 squashed people - even more squashed in our case when an extremely large American gentleman stepped in.  I'm still not quite sure how he managed to get in, or how the lift managed to haul us all up to the top.  Still, when we did get to the top, it was an amazing view.

Anyway, our 2nd concert that night was a triumph, both in the performance, and in the amplified sound.  The sound check had done the trick and all was well both on stage and out front.  It was amazing that we got such a good audience bearing in mind that 46,000 others were attending the match in the stadium.  Even more amazing was the fact that the St Louis Cardinals went and won their 4th game this evening, thereby winning the World Series.  The whole place went crazy - especially in our hotel bar!"
